22 August 2008 I wasn't sure exactly where 4L97 had stopped, except that it was south of Bletchley. When I arrived 57301 had already been attached to the rear opposite the lakes estate. |
22 August 2008 Smoke still drifting out of the offside vents on 86501 as she stands north of the A4146 bypass bridge about 13:15. |
22 August 2008 A closer view with smoke swirling around the cab and a fire crew still inside. |
22 August 2008 The only externally visible damage is on the off side around the grill which is badly scorched. |
22 August 2008 The Freightliner driver cleared to board again and inspect the damage. |
22 August 2008 An hour or so after the earlier pictures, 57301 drags 4L97 slowly back into Bletchley station. |
22 August 2008 Only at this stage were the passengers told that the next service would be after the freight train had been moved. Previously the reason for the service suspension had been given as a "Lineside fire"!! |
22 August 2008 86501 is hauled back through Bletchley into the up goods loop. |
22 August 2008 Close up of the scorching around the front grill. |
22 August 2008 Very difficult to gauge the extent of the damage from these shots. |
22 August 2008 Take away the tail light and at first glance it could be 86501 heading south in the sun - hopefully she will return. |
23 August 2008 86501 stands alone on the engineers sidings alongside Bletchley depot this weekend. |
27 August 2008 A chance visit to the depot and the Allely's low loader had arrived. I returned an hour or so later and 86501 was already loaded. Hardcore had been spread along one of the engineers sidings to allow the low loader to reverse onto the track. |
27 August 2008 Reversing out of the engineers yard across the sloped drive to Bletchley depot was accomplished by adjusting the suspension on the trailer to keep the 86 completely level. |
27 August 2008 86501 is backed into the depot entrance - the depot is a sorry sight with windows boarded up. |
27 August 2008 We thought that 6233 or perhaps 08874 was the last loco to leave, but 86501 stakes its claim as it descends the drive. |
27 August 2008 Safely down the slope, no outward signs of fire damage on this side. |
27 August 2008 86501 stands on First Avenue, Bletchley awaiting the escort. |
27 August 2008 86501 heads for the M1 and ultimately assessment at Crewe LNWR - I hope she will return. |
